The Project Engineer – Electrical reports to the Area Manager – Electrical & Instrumentation and assists with all electrical works with planning and execution on the ASWA project. Throughout this period, the Project Engineer – Electrical provides technical, administrative and (Health &) Safety, Environmental, Quality & Sustainability (HSEQS) support to the Supervisors. You will also be directed by the Area Manager to assist the project delivery team with any required administrative tasks, including onsite matters relating to HSEQS, logistics and procurement.
The Project
The project includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels, seawater intake system, a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, groundwater system, drinking water storage and pump system, supported by civil, electrical and bulk earthworks.
Key accountabilities for the position:
- Manage full lifecycle of engineering tasks including safety documentation, procurement, budgeting, client liaison, permits, scheduling, QA, and reporting.
- Administer contract works ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards; support senior engineers in project administration.
- Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are secured and that daily activities align with design and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in planning, execution, and handover of electrical deliverables, meeting time, cost, and quality targets.
- Prepare technical documentation such as Work Procedures, ITPs, SWMS, Construction Procedures, and Site Access Plans.
- Oversee site inductions for personnel and equipment, ensuring proper onboarding and compliance.
- Track material traceability, manage purchase orders, monitor costs, and establish productivity metrics.
- Conduct internal audits, maintain quality records, and coordinate with the delivery team to stay aligned with project commitments.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles, systems, and construction practices to support planning, execution, and handover of deliverables.
- Proficiency in project planning, budgeting, cost tracking, and forecasting to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of works.
- Thorough understanding of HSEQS requirements, including the ability to prepare and implement SWMS, ITPs, and conduct internal audits.
- Experience in contract administration and procurement, including managing permits, approvals, purchase orders, and material traceability.
- Effective communication and coordination skills to liaise with clients, supervisors, and project teams, and to contribute to reporting, inductions, and daily site activities.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering, with experience in power systems and electrical infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Electrical Standards and local regulatory requirements.
- Proven experience across the full project lifecycle, including design, installation, commissioning, and compliance.
- Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, and other control systems; programming skills are a plus.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently.
